Walking into North Country restaurant, the sizzling aromas of barbecue greet you. The atmosphere can be likened to a slightly upscale, true southern BBQ joint in the south of Tennessee. The great news is, Barrie residents don’t need a passport to visit this Dunlop street gem. Life in Barrie had a great time visiting this new establishment. Plush booth seating fills the bright space. On one side, there is a wall of exposed brick. Opposite, there is a funky yet rustic metal embellishment behind each booth. Each decor item has been intentionally selected. One of our favourite touches: the high colour, framed posters promoting the likes of Patsy Cline, Hank Williams and numerous other country legends.
The Eats at North Country Restaurant
Our latest life in Barrie recommendation really starts with the menu. The menu is as varied as it is decadent. Important to note for our vegetarian/gluten free reader – there are numerous options for you here. A vegetarian favourite: smoked cauliflower bites to start and BBQ Jack fruit in an apple maple Barbecue sauce to follow. Sides? Our first choice was the apple & fennel coleslaw,. Next time, we will be trying the mac & cheese. Another classic we loved? Barbecued Pork Brisket with the classic Bourbon barbecue sauce. A close second? The Brisket burger. This Brisket is gaining quite a reputation around town for being, frankly, the best. Looking at this menu, we decided that this restaurant would be a regular stop for both dine in and take out for the foreseeable future.
Our Final Thoughts
Not only is this spot great for dining in, the nightlife is definitely worth staying late for. The best part? The live country music! Whether it’s a classic country tune playing over the sound system, or a live performance by Rob Watts and the house band, the country vibes are alive and well. Grab one of their signature margaritas and sit back to enjoy the live music. From the hand-selected menu items and to the classic aesthetic, we concluded that North Country is definitely the place to experience Southern style in Barrie.
